Ondo Police Arrest Four Officers Over Viral Stop-and-Search Video, Order Probe Into Alleged Ethnic Remarks

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested four police officers captured in a viral social media video allegedly making unprofessional and ethnically insensitive remarks to a member of the public during a stop-and-search operation along the Lagos–Benin Expressway.

The Command, in a press briefing issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said the officers had been identified as AP/No. 207454, ASP Elomore Sodayo; AP/No. 332012, Inspector Adefila Adewale; AP/No. 332449, Inspector Olorunfemi Opeyemi; and AP/No. 332369, Inspector Odusola Peter.

According to the Police, the Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command, CP Felix Ohagwu, psc, mnips, mspsp, has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the incident to establish the circumstances surrounding the encounter and determine the level of culpability of each of the officers involved.

The Command stressed that the Nigeria Police Force is a disciplined and professional institution that does not tolerate misconduct, incivility, or any conduct capable of undermining public confidence in the Force or promoting ethnic division.

It further stated that police officers are expected to conduct themselves at all times with professionalism, respect for human dignity, and strict adherence to the Code of Conduct and Standard Operating Procedures of the Force.

The Command assured members of the public that the investigation would be conducted in accordance with the principles of fairness, transparency, and accountability.

It added that any officer found culpable of violating the ethics and professional standards of the Nigeria Police Force would face appropriate disciplinary action in line with the law and established disciplinary procedures.

The Ondo State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to professional, intelligence-driven, and community-oriented policing, while urging members of the public to remain law-abiding and continue to cooperate with the Police by reporting incidents of misconduct through established complaint channels.
