SUNSHINER: ONDO SET TO MAKE HISTORY IN SCHOLARSHIP MANAGEMENT

Ondo State may be heading towards a major breakthrough in educational development as the administration of Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa explores an innovative digital platform capable of transforming scholarship administration and attracting corporate investments into the education sector.
The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Scholarship, Samad Orijeminiyi III, made this revelation while meeting with critical stakeholders in Akure, where he unveiled the vision behind SUNSHINER, a proposed Students' Digital Registry and Scholarship Management Platform.
Describing the initiative as a strategic investment in the future of Ondo State students, Orijeminiyi explained that SUNSHINER would provide a reliable digital database of indigenes studying in tertiary institutions across Nigeria, helping government identify, verify and understand their educational needs.
He maintained that scholarships should be driven by value and treated as investments in human capital rather than acts of charity.
However, the biggest opportunity presented by SUNSHINER, according to him, is its capacity to attract Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) investments from organisations within and outside Ondo State.
He explained that corporate organisations and development partners are more confident investing in education when reliable data is available to identify genuine beneficiaries and measure the impact of their interventions.
With SUNSHINER, rather than making general appeals for educational assistance, Ondo State could present credible aggregate information about its student population and their specific needs.
This could encourage companies, foundations and development agencies to support students through scholarships, internships, mentorship, skills development, research funding and other youth-focused programmes.
Orijeminiyi further noted that organisations could use the proposed platform to identify specific categories of students and programmes deserving of support, subject to government oversight and appropriate data-protection safeguards.
He described the philosophy behind the initiative as simple but fundamental to effective governance: government cannot adequately support, invest in or plan for a population it cannot accurately identify, verify and understand.
He also thanked Governor Aiyedatiwa for the opportunity to contribute to the development of Ondo State.
If successfully implemented, SUNSHINER could become a significant milestone in the state's educational transformation, creating a sustainable connection between government, students and corporate investors.
For Ondo State, this is an opportunity to think beyond conventional scholarship programmes and build a system that attracts more educational opportunities to its people.
