The Ondo State Police Command has arrested and arraigned a woman, identified as Olatunde Mary, for allegedly attacking her husband with a cutlass during a domestic dispute in Akure, the state capital.

The suspect, who resides at Ilado II along Igbatoro Road, Akure, was prosecuted following an investigation into the incident, which reportedly left her husband, Olatunde Julius, with a severe injury.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the case was reported to the Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Unit at the Command Headquarters on June 3, 2026.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the incident occurred on June 2 at about 2:30 p.m. during an altercation between the couple. The police alleged that the suspect assaulted her husband and inflicted a deep cut on his left hand with a cutlass.

The victim was said to have been rushed for medical treatment, where the injury was examined and documented.

The police stated that detectives conducted a thorough investigation, obtained statements from both parties and gathered evidence relating to the case.

“Upon the conclusion of the investigation and the establishment of a prima facie case, the suspect was arrested and subsequently arraigned before a court of competent jurisdiction for prosecution in accordance with the law,” the statement said.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Felix Ohagwu, reiterated the Command’s commitment to tackling all forms of domestic violence, stressing that offenders would be held accountable irrespective of gender, social status or relationship with victims.

The Command also urged members of the public to promptly report cases of domestic violence, abuse and other gender-related offences to the nearest police station or the GBV Unit for necessary intervention and legal action.

Police authorities assured residents that all reported cases would be professionally investigated and diligently prosecuted in line with the law.
