OMISORE MAY BACK ADELEKE: REPORTED DEDICATION OF POLITICAL STRUCTURE COULD BOLSTER GOVERNOR’S REELECTION BID

A graphic circulating on social media suggests that former Deputy Governor of Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore, may be dedicating his political structure to Governor Ademola Adeleke’s reelection bid. The image, captioned “Iyiola Omisore dedicates his political structure to Ademola Adeleke’s reelection bid,” appears to signal possible alignment between both leaders, though official confirmation from Omisore or Adeleke is still pending as of press time.

Senator Iyiola Omisore, who served as Deputy Governor from 1999 to 2003, is widely regarded as having significant grassroots influence, particularly in Ife and parts of Osun Central and Osun East. If the reported dedication proves accurate, his structure could potentially provide additional mobilization capacity for Governor Adeleke’s campaign ahead of the next governorship election.

In Nigerian politics, such alignments often correlate with coordinated voter turnout and campaign logistics at ward and LGA levels. However, the actual impact would depend on how the structure is deployed and how loyalists respond on election day.

On party dynamics, Omisore has been associated with both PDP and APC at different times, should he formally back Adeleke, it may reduce internal friction within the Osun PDP and consolidate support around the incumbent.

For Ife/Ijesha axis in Osun State, this region has historically been decisive in Osun elections, meaning if Omisore’s involvement, is confirmed, it could potentially strengthen Adeleke’s position there, though voter sentiment will ultimately determine the outcomes.

Opposition calculations will have grapple with a visible Omisore-Adeleke alignment, which might make it more challenging for opposition parties to gain traction in Osun Central and East, but election results remain unpredictable until votes are cast.

Political pundits will ordinarily want to believe that the grassroots structures often influence, but do not guarantee, electoral success. If verified, Omisore’s support could expand the campaign reach of the incumbent and provide access to additional coordinators and ward-level mobilizers.

A signal of party unity, will suggest greater cohesion among political stakeholders in Osun State ahead of the PDP primaries, aid voter mobilization, contribute to voter education and turnout efforts, depending on its execution.

Governor Adeleke has not released an official statement on the supposed alignment as of press time, without direct confirmation, the development remains in the realm of reported political signaling, rather than an established fact.

Omisore who was instrumental to the emergence of the immediate past Governor Oyetola, also wanted to vie for the number one seat in the state just before the APC primaries, but was handicapped by the party’s internal mechanism and had to step down for the supremacy of the party and now, he’s about to sacrifice his ambition to again collapse his structure to help the incumbent Governor win his second term bid, if the new making the rounds is true.

Wouldn’t that be his strength to bargain in every election cycle?

This reported alignment, if substantiated, would reflect a common pattern in Nigerian politics where stakeholders gravitate toward incumbents as election cycles approach year in, year out. For Osun voters, the key variable will likely be how any political collaboration will translate into governance and the delivery of campaign promises
