Excitement swept across Akure North Local Government on Wednesday as Hon. Tomisin Edu Falade emerged the clear frontrunner in the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election, recording early victories in all 12 wards of the council area.
A tour round the various wards showed overwhelming support for Tomisin, with party members turning out in massive numbers to vote for her in what many described as one of the most peaceful and organized primaries in recent times.
From Ward 1 to Ward 12, supporters gathered in large crowds, chanting solidarity songs and celebrating openly as results from polling units consistently placed Tomisin far ahead of other aspirants.
In many centres, jubilant residents danced and waved party flags, turning the exercise into a carnival-like atmosphere.
Observers at the exercise noted that none of the other contenders came close to matching the level of support enjoyed by Tomisin across the local government area.
Residents and party faithful attributed her strong showing to her grassroots connection, accessibility, and continued engagement with communities across Akure North.
“The crowd today speaks volumes,” a party chieftain said during the exercise. “People came out because they believe in her leadership and capacity to represent them well.”
Another voter described the election as a true reflection of the people’s will.
“We have never seen this kind of turnout before,” he said. “The people are united behind Hon. Tomisin Edu Falade, and today’s result proves it.”
Speaking with journalists after casting her vote, Tomisin applauded the conduct of the primary election and commended party officials for ensuring a smooth and transparent process.
“I want to appreciate the APC leadership, security agencies, and our party members for the peaceful conduct of this exercise,” she stated. “The process has been orderly, free, and well coordinated, and I am grateful for the overwhelming support from the people.”
She also expressed appreciation to supporters across the 12 wards for what she described as a demonstration of trust and confidence in her leadership.
Political stakeholders in the area said the outcome of the primary election further confirms Falade’s growing influence within the APC and her acceptance among the grassroots.
As celebrations continued in several communities across Akure North, many supporters described the development as a new chapter for the local government and a sign of stronger unity within the party ahead of future elections.
