The Ondo State chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS) has recorded a major policy breakthrough following the formal signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the Federal Mortgage Bank Loan Scheme for serving and retired members of the union.

The agreement was signed on Monday, June 23, 2026, by the Permanent Secretary of the Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), Ondo State, in the presence of the ASUSS State Chairman, Comrade Amuda Tairu Abiola, JP, the State Secretary, and the State Public Relations Officer (PRO).
The MoU is aimed at strengthening access to housing finance for secondary school teachers and retirees in the state through the Federal Mortgage Bank framework, with a structured implementation process designed to improve participation and transparency.
Describing the development as a significant victory for members, ASUSS said the agreement reflects sustained engagement and constructive dialogue between the union leadership and relevant government institutions.
The union noted that the initiative represents a key step toward improving the socio-economic welfare of teachers, particularly in addressing long-standing challenges related to access to affordable housing.
According to ASUSS, the signing of the MoU will pave the way for clearer guidelines on eligibility, application procedures, and implementation modalities, which will be communicated to members in due course.
The leadership also expressed appreciation to members for their patience and cooperation throughout the negotiation process, describing their support as instrumental to achieving the outcome.
ASUSS reaffirmed its commitment to continued advocacy for policies and partnerships that promote the welfare, dignity, and financial stability of teachers across Ondo State.
Teachers have described the development as a landmark step in the ongoing efforts to reposition the welfare framework for educators, noting that it could significantly improve access to housing support for both serving and retired members of the union.
