The ancient town of Akungba-Akoko came alive on Saturday as sons and daughters at home and abroad gathered to celebrate Akungba Day 2026, a festival of culture, unity, and communal progress.

Leading the goodwill messages, Hon. Niran Olanusi #IseOluwa, APC House of Assembly hopeful for Akoko South West Constituency II, felicitated with the people, describing the celebration as “a reaffirmation of our shared heritage and a call to collective responsibility.”
In a statement issued during the event, Olanusi commended the monarch, Oba Isiaka Oseni Adu, the Alale of Akungbaland, community leaders, youth groups, and market women and men for sustaining the tradition that has kept Akungba’s identity strong across generations.
Olanusi said Akungba Day is more than festivities, it is a platform to assess progress and set new goals for the constituency.
“Akungba is the home of learning, commerce, and hospitality. What we do here reflects on the entire Akoko South West. Today reminds us that no meaningful development can happen without peace, unity, and the active participation of every son and daughter,” he stated.
He pledged to prioritize education, youth empowerment, rural infrastructure, and support for small businesses when elected to represent the constituency at the Ondo State House of Assembly.
“As we celebrate, let us also commit ourselves to building the Akungba of our dreams, a town where our graduates find opportunities, our farmers have access to markets, and our mothers trade in a safe and modern environment,” Olanusi added.
Traditional rulers and community stakeholders praised the gesture, noting that Olanusi’s consistent presence at community events shows genuine commitment beyond politics.
The day featured cultural displays, awards to illustrious indigenes, fundraising for community projects, and a lecture on “Harnessing Education and Enterprise for Akungba’s Future.”
With the 2027 elections approaching, Olanusi urged constituents to remain politically engaged and to choose leaders based on competence, character, and commitment to grassroots development.
“Leadership is service. My aspiration is borne out of the desire to give Akoko South West II purposeful representation, one that will attract government’s presence and empower our people,” he said.
Akungba Day 2026 ended with prayers for peace, prosperity, and progress in Akungba, Akoko South West II, and Ondo State at large.
