BREAKING NEWS: MATO Withdraws Suit Against Adefiranye Over APC House of Reps Ticket Substitution

The legal battle over the APC ticket for Ileoluji/Okeigbo/Odigbo Federal Constituency has come to an end, as Hon. Mathew Oyerinmade, popularly known as MATO, has formally withdrawn his suit against Hon. Festus Adefiranye at the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The matter, which challenged the substitution of MATO’s name by the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Working Committee following the House of Representatives primary, came up for hearing on Tuesday.

Counsel to MATO, Dr. Remi Olatubora, SAN, told the court that his client was withdrawing the suit for “personal reasons.”
Counsel for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and for the respondent, Hon. Adefiranye, both aligned with the application.

Following the withdrawal, the presiding judge granted an order dismissing the suit. The case was subsequently struck out and removed from the court’s cause list.

In a statement issued by Segun Odidi, Esq. on behalf of the MATO Mandate Group, the development was described as a move “to set the record straight and to properly inform members of the public and stakeholders of the latest development.”

The withdrawal clears the path for Hon. Festus Adefiranye to proceed as the APC candidate for the Ileoluji/Okeigbo/Odigbo Federal Constituency ahead of the 2027 general elections.

No political ambition is worth protracted litigation. Party unity and focus on the electorate should now take precedence, a source close to the party stated.
