The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State is facing heightened internal tension following the recently concluded primary elections, amid allegations of candidate list alterations, widening factional distrust, and rising political agitation within the party structure.

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has emerged as the central stabilizing figure in the unfolding crisis, with party stakeholders insisting that the will of members and the authority of the governor must be respected to preserve discipline and prevent further disintegration.
However, attention has increasingly shifted toward factions associated with the Minister of Interior, Bunmi Tunji-Ojo (BTO), as allegations and counter-allegations continue to dominate the post primary environment.
While no official findings have established wrongdoing, some party actors allege that elements within his political network are contributing to internal pressure and escalating tensions.
The crisis intensified following reports of a peaceful APC protest in Ikare Akoko, where allegations emerged that protesters were shot at by individuals believed to be linked to internal party fractions.
The development has sparked concerns and renewed demands for a thorough, independent investigation into the circumstances and those involved.
Within the party, accusations of sabotage are also growing, with critics alleging that some individuals who previously belonged to the opposition PDP before defecting to the APC after electoral defeats are now fueling instability and acting contrary to party discipline and manifesto principles.
Further controversies surrounds a relatively lesser known political figure from Auga Akoko, once associated with the Aiyedatiwa administration, who is now accused of resigning and subsequently engaging in public criticism of the state government through social media commentary seen by loyalists as divisive and damaging to party unity.
Supporters of Governor Aiyedatiwa maintain that the governor has demonstrated political maturity and inclusiveness, particularly in managing sensitive political negotiations during the primaries.
It is also recalled that he reportedly encouraged aspirants to step down for Hon. Ife Ehindero (BTO’s Cousin) in the Akoko North House of Representatives race as part of broader reconciliation efforts aimed at strengthening party cohesion.
Despite these efforts, tensions remain high within the APC, with party leaders calling for restraint, discipline, and respect for hierarchy to prevent further escalation of internal conflict.
Party stakeholders warn that the current situation represents a critical test for the party in Ondo State, with Governor Aiyedatiwa now firmly at the center of efforts to restore unity amid widening factional divisions.
