FINAL HOMAGE PAID TO LATE CHIEF JAMES ADEYANJU OWOLABI IN GRAND CEREMONY AT IKOLE EKITI.

The peaceful town of Ikole Ekiti came alive on Friday, 17th October 2025, as dignitaries, family members, and well-wishers gathered to celebrate the life and times of Late Chief James Adeyanju Owolabi, a retired school principal who passed on at the ripe age of 89.

The funeral service, which was held at Methodist Church, Ikole Ekiti, was presided over by the Bishop of Ayedun Diocese who in his sermon, described the late Chief Owolabi as “a man of virtue, discipline, and uncommon dedication to the growth of education and humanity.” He urged the living to emulate the life of the departed elder statesman.

Following the service, a colorful reception was held at D Vand Event Center, where a large crowd of mourners paid their last respects. The event attracted an array of prominent Nigerians including Mr. Banji Oladunni, oil and gas magnate; Mrs. Akinola, a top official of INEC; and Prince Adeyimika Fredrick Famuyiwa, CEO of Blue Diamond Sead, who all described Chief Owolabi as a rare gem whose legacy will endure for generations.

The children of the deceased, led by the eldest, Mrs. Opeyemi Jackson, used the occasion to preach peace, unity, and tolerance among the living. In a deeply emotional tribute, she thanked all guests and the people of Ikole Ekiti for standing with the family during their time of grief.

A son of the deceased, Engr Olumuyiwa Owolabi, Chairman,Marydos Nigeria LTD ,a construction firm ,also used the occasion to appeal to government authorities to urgently address the deplorable condition of roads across Ekiti State, which he said continues to hinder economic and social development. He encouraged leaders to “complement the good work of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu by ensuring good governance reaches the grassroots.”

Late Chief Owolabi is survived by children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His legacy lives on in the countless lives he impacted as an educationist, community leader, and loving father.
