Rufai Oseni Sparks Debate on Nigeria’s Development After Visit to Berlin Nigerian Restaurant

Nigerian media personality Rufai Oseni has stirred conversation online following remarks he made during a visit to a Nigerian, owned restaurant in Berlin, Germany.

In a viral video shared on X, Oseni was seen speaking from the premises of Ebe-Ano Nigeria Soulfood, a Nigerian restaurant located in a local district of the German capital. Expressing admiration for the environment and level of organisation, he questioned “Why similar standards of development remain elusive in Nigeria?”.

“Why can’t we make our country this way? This is just a local area in Germany,” he remarked, drawing a comparison between the setting and high end areas in Nigeria.

The comments have since gained traction across social media platforms, with many Nigerians engaging in conversations, governance, infrastructure, and the enabling environment for businesses at home.

Oseni’s remarks highlight a recurring theme in national discourse, the contrast between the operational conditions available to Nigerians abroad and those within the country. Observers note that diaspora entrepreneurs often thrive in structured systems that support consistency, regulation, and long term business growth.

The Berlin based restaurant, reportedly run by a Nigerian entrepreneur for the past nineteen years, stands as an example of how cultural identity and enterprise can successfully blend in a foreign environment, while also serving as a subtle critique of systemic challenges back home.

While some social media users agreed with Oseni’s position, citing issues such as poor infrastructure and inconsistent policies, others argued that progress in Nigeria requires collective responsibility, not just government intervention.

The conversation underscores a broader question that continues to resonate among citizens: what structural changes are necessary to create an environment where businesses and communities can thrive sustainably within Nigeria?

Rufai Oseni also took advantage of the viral video, to clear the air over his rumored suspension from his current place of work at Arise Television, saying his boss is aware of the trip to Germany and he is also looking forward to receiving his award as one of the Best Journalists by Daily Independent Newspaper.

As the debate continues, Oseni’s remarks have once again brought attention to the need for reforms that encourage development, accountability, and national transformation.
