Ondo NUJ Chairman, Prince Leke Adegbite Honoured with Leadership Award at AAUA

The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Ondo State Council, Prince Leke Adegbite, has been recognized for his impact on journalism and media leadership in the state.

Adegbite received the Leadership Award from the Social Sciences Students’ Association, SOSSA, of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, AAUA, during a public lecture and awards ceremony held on Thursday at the Nelson Mandela Hall.

According to the organizers, the honour was in recognition of his contributions to journalism practice and his role in promoting quality leadership within the media industry in Ondo State.

The event, themed “Nigerian Security Challenge and Its Politics of Blame Game,” drew academics, traditional rulers, students, and other stakeholders.

Adegbite, who was represented by journalist Adeboye Ado, thanked the students for the recognition and urged them to remain focused on their studies and embrace hard work as the surest path to success. He also commended AAUA for consistently producing graduates making a mark across different sectors globally.

Representing the Vice-Chancellor, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic, Prof. Adebisi Daramola, described the lecture topic as timely and courageous.
“The choice of topic reflects the realities of our time. I commend SOSSA for organizing this lecture, as it contributes meaningfully to national discourse and development,” he said.

The Owa-Ale of Ikare-Akoko, Oba Adeleke Adegbite-Adedoyin, also praised SOSSA President, Mogaji Oluwatosin, for his leadership and dedication to the association. He encouraged students to explore entrepreneurship and job creation opportunities while staying hopeful about Nigeria’s future.

Speaking for the Faculty of Social Sciences, Dean Prof. Adesuyi Adebukola stressed that insecurity remains a global challenge that must be addressed with practical solutions, not blame.
She cited the recent abduction of pupils in Oyo State as a reminder that without security, development cannot thrive.

Delivering the keynote lecture, the Vice-Chancellor of Achievers University, Prof. Oyesoji Aremu, noted that insecurity continues to cripple Nigeria’s economy and education sector, revealing that he had declined several academic engagements due to safety concerns.
He called for stronger regional collaboration and increased support for security agencies to curb the menace nationwide.
