In celebration of this year’s Children’s Day, House of Assembly aspirant in Akure North Constituency, Tomisin Edu Falade, has renewed calls for stronger legislation and stricter enforcement of child rights laws to protect Nigerian children from abuse and neglect.

Tomisin while addressing residents and supporters in Akure North, described children as the backbone of the nation’s future and urged leaders at all levels to place greater attention on policies that secure their wellbeing.
She expressed concern over increasing incidents of child labour, molestation, trafficking, and street begging, noting that many children are still exposed to harmful conditions despite existing legal protections.
According to her, meaningful development can only be achieved when children are given access to quality education, proper healthcare, and a safe environment to thrive.
“As we celebrate Children’s Day, we must move beyond ceremonies and commit ourselves to protecting the rights and dignity of every child. Stronger laws and effective enforcement are necessary to end child abuse in our society,” she stated.
Tomisin further called on parents, schools, security agencies, and community leaders to work collectively in identifying and reporting cases of abuse, stressing that silence often enables perpetrators.
The aspirant assured constituents that child welfare and youth development would receive priority attention in her legislative agenda when elected into the Ondo State House of Assembly.
She also encouraged children to remain focused, disciplined, and optimistic about the future, despite the economic and social challenges facing the country.
“Every child deserves protection, education, and the opportunity to dream big. We owe them a society where they can grow without fear,” Tomisin added.
