A political advocacy group, the Opomulero Movement, has called on Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa and leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State to address what it described as a longstanding imbalance in the Akure Federal Constituency.

In an open letter made available to the public, the group’s Director General, Olasupo Olakunori, decried the alleged exclusion of Akure North Local Government from representation in the National Assembly since Nigeria’s return to democratic rule in 1999.
Olakunori noted that for nearly three decades, Akure North has not produced a representative at the federal legislative level, a situation he said raises concerns about fairness, inclusiveness, and equal political participation within the constituency.
He acknowledged the efforts of Governor Aiyedatiwa in promoting people oriented governance across Ondo State, but urged the administration to seize what he described as a “defining opportunity” to correct the perceived imbalance.
According to him, allowing Akure North to produce the next representative for the constituency would restore confidence among residents, promote unity, and strengthen democratic values in the state.
The Opomulero Movement also appealed to APC leaders to prioritize equity by supporting a credible candidate from Akure North in future electoral arrangements, emphasizing that such a move would enhance grassroots inclusion and boost the party’s acceptance among constituents.
The group reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for fairness and equal political opportunities across Ondo State, stressing that the time had come to “break the 28 years jinx” and ensure balanced representation within the Akure Federal Constituency.
