The Ondo State chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS), under the leadership of its State Chairman, Comrade Amuda Tairu Abiola, JP, has recorded a major breakthrough in its efforts to address challenges faced by teachers in accessing mortgage loans through the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN).

The achievement followed a strategic visit by the ASUSS leadership to the management and staff of the Federal Mortgage Bank, Oke-Eda, Akure, on Monday, June 16, 2026.
During the meeting, the union leadership engaged the bank’s management on lingering issues affecting serving and retired secondary school teachers, particularly delays in accessing housing loans and other mortgage-related benefits.
Speaking during the engagement, Comrade Amuda issued a two-week ultimatum to the bank to resolve all outstanding issues affecting teachers, stressing that both serving and retired members of the union deserved prompt access to their entitlements.
The ASUSS chairman expressed optimism that the intervention would bring lasting relief to affected teachers across the state.
In response, the management of the Federal Mortgage Bank assured the union that immediate steps had been taken to address the identified challenges.
The bank also pledged that retired teachers awaiting payment would begin receiving their benefits on or before June 26, 2026, in line with the timeline presented by the union leadership.
Meanwhile, the ASUSS delegation also paid a working visit to the management of the Public Service Training Institute (PSTI), Ilara-Mokin, as part of efforts to establish a mutually beneficial partnership between the two institutions.
During the visit, the Permanent Secretary and top management officials of the institute held extensive discussions with the union delegation on areas of collaboration aimed at enhancing professional development, capacity building and welfare opportunities for secondary school teachers in the state.
The ASUSS team was led by the State Chairman, Comrade Amuda Tairu Abiola, JP, and included the State Vice Chairman, Comrade Olafemisoye; State Public Relations Officer, Comrade Odeh Kehinde; State Financial Secretary, Comrade Obasekola; Akure South II Chairman, Comrade Famese; Akure South I Chairman, Comrade Okadipupo; and Comrade Ibukun, among other officials.
Stakeholders described the engagements as significant milestones for the union, noting that the outcomes reflect the commitment of the current ASUSS leadership to advancing the welfare of members and strengthening institutional partnerships.
Observers also hailed the development as evidence of the proactive and result-oriented leadership style of Comrade Amuda Tairu Abiola, whose administration has continued to pursue initiatives aimed at securing lasting benefits for both serving and retired teachers in Ondo State.
