A leading philanthropist and legal practitioner, Olumuyiwa Adu, has further demonstrated his commitment to education and community development with the donation of a multi-million naira medical hostel to the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA).

The landmark project, unveiled on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at Iro Quarters in Akure, is expected to significantly ease accommodation challenges faced by medical students and strengthen the university’s capacity to secure full accreditation for its MBBS programme.
Representing the donor, Apostle Kehinde Omoniyi, Ph.D., described the initiative as a reflection of Dr. Adu’s enduring passion for impactful giving and strategic collaboration. He emphasized that the philanthropist remains committed to advancing developmental projects through partnerships with governments, institutions, and community stakeholders.
Omoniyi highlighted the broader implications of the intervention, noting that the newly constructed Olumuyiwa Adu Medical Hostel would not only improve student welfare but also enhance institutional standards and support regulatory requirements set by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria.
He further referenced Adu’s history of large scale philanthropy, including the transformation of his family residence into a series of modern architectural structures distributed among his siblings, an act he described as emblematic of the donor’s generosity and deep rooted family values.
Speaking at the event, the Deji of Akure, Oba Ogunlade Aladelusi Aladetoyinbo CFR, commended the gesture as both exemplary and transformative. The monarch noted that Adu’s consistent contributions to societal development have earned widespread recognition across traditional institutions.

He remarked that increased participation by Akure indigenes in community advancement is ushering in a new era of self driven growth, adding that such acts of philanthropy signal a promising future for the kingdom. The royal father offered prayers for the donor’s continued success, health, and longevity.
In a similar vein, the Chief Imam of Akure Kingdom, Sheikh AbdulAkeem Yayi-Akorede, praised Adu’s dedication to humanitarian service and his role in uplifting the socio-economic profile of the community, while offering prayers for greater accomplishments.

The Chairman of the Central Organising Committee, Femi Oyinsan, reflected on his long standing relationship with the donor, describing him as a man of humility, resilience, and unwavering generosity. He acknowledged that the intervention came at a critical moment when the university faced infrastructural challenges that could have hindered progress.
Also speaking, the Vice Chancellor of FUTA, Adenike Oladiji, expressed profound appreciation to the donor and other stakeholders, including Lucky Aiyedatiwa, whose support facilitated the conversion of the state specialist hospital into a teaching hospital for the institution.

She noted that the provision of a hostel facility in proximity to the teaching hospital is a key requirement for accreditation, adding that the timely intervention by Dr. Adu averted what could have been a major setback for the university’s medical programme.
According to her, the project represents a lasting investment in the future of medical education in Ondo State and will benefit generations of students.
The event drew a distinguished audience, including government officials, traditional rulers, academics, religious leaders, community stakeholders, and members of the public, all of whom commended the donor’s visionary contribution.
Dr. Adu, who is also a senatorial aspirant for Ondo Central, used the occasion to advocate stronger collaboration between private individuals and government in addressing developmental challenges. He urged those with the means to contribute meaningfully to societal growth, describing such efforts as both a moral duty and a pathway to sustainable development.
The donation stands as yet another testament to the transformative power of private philanthropy in advancing education, strengthening institutions, and fostering community progress.
