Ondo police arrest three suspected drug dealers, recover tramadol, codeine in Akure

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested three suspected drug dealers in Akure, the state capital, as part of its intensified crackdown on illicit drug trafficking and other criminal activities.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, saying the operation was carried out by operatives of the Anti-Cultism Squad under the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Felix Ohagwu.

According to the statement, the suspects, identified as Fisayo Adedamola, Adeola Oluwaseun and Adeogun Olumide, were apprehended on July 24 at about 2 p.m. during a routine confidence-building patrol within the Akure metropolis.

The police said the suspects were allegedly involved in the distribution and sale of illicit drugs, adding that a search conducted on them led to the recovery of substances suspected to be cannabis, Tramadol capsules, Codeine syrup and Tutolin syrup.

“The suspects were immediately taken into custody, while the recovered exhibits have been secured as evidence. Preliminary investigations are ongoing to determine the source of the drugs, identify possible accomplices and uncover any criminal network connected to their activities,” the statement read.

The command added that the suspects would be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of investigations.

Reacting to the development, Ohagwu reiterated the command’s resolve to rid the state of illicit drug trafficking, describing drug abuse and illegal drug distribution as major factors fueling cultism, armed robbery and other violent crimes.

He said the police would sustain intelligence-driven operations aimed at dismantling criminal syndicates engaged in the illicit drug trade across the state.

The commissioner also appealed to parents, community leaders and residents to support security agencies with credible information that would aid the arrest and prosecution of drug traffickers and other criminal elements.
