Akure residents may soon bid farewell to persistent traffic congestion as Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has reportedly begun moves toward the construction of a massive flyover bridge in the state capital.

The flyover project, which is expected to stretch from the Cathedral axis to the ever-busy A Division area, is already generating widespread attention following visible activities around the proposed route.
PalacePulse News gathered that engineers and government officials have commenced the marking of strategic locations and structures that may be affected by the project, an indication that preparatory works are already in progress.
An engineer attached to the project, who spoke with PalacePulse News under anonymity, confirmed that the contract for the flyover has been awarded and that work has officially commenced.
“We have started preliminary operations already. The contract has been awarded and the government wants the project completed within the shortest possible time,” the source revealed.
The development has sparked excitement among motorists and residents who have long complained about traffic build-up around the Cathedral and A Division corridor, especially during peak hours.
Many residents described the proposed flyover as a timely intervention capable of transforming transportation and improving the overall outlook of Akure as a modern city.
However, concerns have also emerged among some property owners and traders who fear that demolitions and displacement may occur as construction progresses.
Despite the concerns, supporters of the project believe the flyover will stand as one of the signature infrastructural achievements of Governor Aiyedatiwa’s administration.
As of the time of filing this report, the Ondo State Government has yet to officially unveil the project design, budget, or expected completion date.
