Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has officially declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election, making the announcement at a political rally in Ibadan. Reports say the declaration took place at the Mapo Hall area during a PDP–APM alliance event that drew party supporters, stakeholders and political allies.

The rally was also used to unveil a wider political arrangement between the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), with the agreement described as part of preparations for the 2027 election cycle.
According to reports, Makinde said his decision was driven by the need for competent, accountable leadership and a reset of the country’s governance system.
The declaration marks a major development in the build-up to the 2027 general elections and is expected to intensify conversations around opposition alignments and Makinde’s national political prospects.
