As public secondary schools in Ondo State prepare to resume on Monday for the new academic term.
Stakeholders in the education sector have appealed to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to urgently constitute the board of the newly established Ondo State Senior Secondary School Education Board (OSSEC).
The call, made over the weekend, emphasized the importance of swift action in ensuring that the board begins operation immediately to enhance the quality of education in senior secondary schools across the state.
Retired senior staff in the Ministry of Education, Mr. Omodara Abegunde, urged the Governor to see the inauguration of OSSEC’s board as a top priority in his administration’s education reform efforts.
“This is a crucial moment. With schools resuming next week, it is important to have the proper structures in place. The establishment of the board is a welcome development, but it must be backed by prompt constitution and effective leadership,” he said.
A serving principal and education administrator, who does not want his name in print, also echoed similar sentiments, stressing that appointing the right people into the board will go a long way in driving results.
“We need people who understand the peculiarities of the education sector. Professionals, not political appointees. That is the only way OSSEC can truly make a difference,” he noted.
Another stakeholder, retired school administrator Mr. Dayo Aladesulu , called on the Governor to select technocrats and experienced educators, adding that the success of the board will largely depend on the competence of its members.
The stakeholders concluded by reaffirming their support for Governor Aiyedatiwa’s education agenda and expressed optimism that the OSSEC board, once constituted, will mark a new chapter in the senior secondary education system in Ondo State.
