SEYI TINUBU FACES APC BLOCKADE OVER LAGOS GOVERNORSHIP BID

A power play is brewing within the Lagos All Progressives Congress (APC) as influential figures move to block Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, from contesting the governorship in 2027.

Sources close to the party’s Governance Advisory Council (GAC) reveal that Seyi Tinubu has been advised to shelve his ambitions until 2031, with party leaders citing concerns over “dynastic rule” and potential voter backlash.

Instead, the GAC is reportedly considering a comeback for former governor Akinwunmi Ambode, who served from 2015 to 2019, as a “bridge candidate” in 2027. Ambode’s Epe division hasn’t had an eight-year governorship tenure since 1999, making him a viable option to address zoning grievances.

The move is seen as a bid to calm tensions within the party and strengthen unity ahead of a challenging election cycle.

Ambode’s past differences with President Tinubu are reportedly being ironed out, paving the way for a potential reconciliation.

Seyi Tinubu’s supporters argue he has the credentials and grassroots appeal to lead Lagos, but APC stakeholders warn an early push could fracture the party.

The president’s son has not publicly commented on the matter, but insiders say the GAC’s decision is firm: 2027 is not the time for a Tinubu dynasty experiment.

The drama unfolds as Lagos gears up for a pivotal election, with the APC seeking to retain the governorship seat. Will Seyi Tinubu wait in the wings or challenge the party’s decision?
Only time will tell.
