In what observers have described as a defining moment for Ijesaland’s socio-cultural and developmental trajectory, renowned aviation expert and investment strategist, Otunba Layiwola Folorunsho Oriowo, has been nominated as the new Saloro of Ijesaland.

The announcement, made during the unveiling of the Obokungbusi Hall of Fame, marks not only a ceremonial elevation, but a strategic infusion of global experience into traditional leadership structures. Otunba Oriowo, who serves as Group Director at O’dua Investment Company Limited, brings to the revered stool a blend of corporate acumen, international exposure, and deep rooted commitment to community advancement.
Speaking at the event, Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, reaffirmed his administration’s openness to partnerships that drive regional growth, emphasizing that individuals with proven capacity and vision remain critical to the state’s developmental agenda. His position was echoed by the Owa Obokun Adimula and Paramount Ruler of Ijesaland, Clement Adesuyi Haastrup, whose endorsement underscores the confidence of the traditional institution in Otunba Oriowo’s leadership potential.
The Saloro title, once held by the late Chief S. B. Bakare, is historically associated with influence, responsibility, and service. Otunba Lai Oriowo’s nomination is therefore seen as a call to stewardship at a time when Ijesaland stands at the intersection of heritage preservation and modern economic aspiration.
In his acceptance remarks, Otunba Oriowo described the honour as a profound responsibility, pledging to deploy his network and expertise toward reconnecting Ijesas in the diaspora with their homeland. He noted that sustainable development in today’s world demands not only local commitment, but also global linkage, an area in which he is uniquely positioned to contribute.
Beyond symbolism, his emergence reflects a broader shift toward integrating technocratic competence into traditional frameworks. As Chairman of Wallis Construction Limited and Chanelle Microfinance Bank, Otunba Lai Oriowo has consistently demonstrated an understanding of infrastructure development, financial inclusion, and enterprise growth, critical levers for regional transformation.
He also acknowledged ongoing efforts by Governor Adeleke and the traditional council, assuring of a collaborative approach that aligns governance with grassroots realities. Analysts suggest that such synergy between state leadership, traditional authority, and private sector expertise could accelerate economic opportunities, across Ijesaland.
With expectations high, stakeholders view Otunba Oriowo’s ascension as more than a personal milestone, it is a potential catalyst for repositioning Ijesaland as a hub of cultural pride, economic vitality, and global relevance.
