Kwankwaso Allegedly Set to Join ADC Monday

Former Kano State governor and national leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, is expected to formally defect to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Monday, according to sources.

The planned move follows weeks of consultations involving Kwankwaso, his Kwankwasiyya political movement, and key stakeholders within the ADC.
In recent weeks, he has reportedly held high-level discussions with prominent opposition figures, including ADC National Secretary Rauf Aregbesola, former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, Seyi Makinde, and Seriake Dickson.

Political observers say the development signals a broader realignment among opposition parties ahead of the 2027 general elections, with efforts underway to build a stronger coalition to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Kwankwaso’s reported defection comes on the heels of a political rift with his former ally and Kano State governor, Abba Yusuf, who recently defected to the APC along with several lawmakers and appointees, a move Kwankwaso reportedly opposed, describing it as a betrayal.
