KWAM 1 Declares Interest in Awujale Stool, Says He’s Ready to Serve Ijebuland.

Legendary Fuji musician, Otunba Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as KWAM 1, has formally declared his intention to be considered for the prestigious stool of the Awujale of Ijebuland.

In a letter dated December 3, 2025, addressed to the Fusengbuwa Ruling House of Agunsebi Quarters, the music icon emphasized his ancestral lineage and deep cultural ties as the foundation of his ambition.

“I am a bona fide son of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House, tracing my roots to the Oba Jadiara lineage,” KWAM 1 wrote. “I have spent over five decades promoting the rich cultural heritage of Ijebu, the Yoruba nation, and Nigeria through music.”

KWAM 1, who was born on March 3, 1957, listed his traditional and national honors, including his 2020 installation as Mayegun of Yorubaland by the Alaafin of Oyo and his 2022 national award of Member of the Order of the Niger (MON).He was also conferred with the titles Olori Omo-Oba and Otunba Afidipotemole of Akile Ijebu by the late Awujale.

The entertainer’s declaration comes amidst recent public controversies, including a widely reported altercation with airport authorities in Abuja over a flask suspected to contain alcohol. The incident initially led to a flight ban, later reversed by authorities who made him a FAAN ambassador instead.

Responding to KWAM 1’s letter, the chairman of the Fusengbuwa ruling house, Abdul Lateef Adebayo Owoyemi, confirmed its receipt and urged family members to remain calm and confident.

“In Sha Allah, we shall have cause to rejoice,” Owoyemi said. “Only God crowns kings, and the process will soon reach a peaceful and joyous conclusion.”

The stool of the Awujale became vacant following the passing of Oba Sikiru Adetona, who reigned for over six decades. The succession is now in motion, with expectations that a new Awujale will emerge in the coming weeks.
