President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared a nationwide security emergency in response to the growing wave of insecurity and violence across the country. In a bold move to restore peace and stability, the President on Wednesday directed the Nigerian Police Force to recruit an additional 20,000 officers, increasing the total planned recruitment to 50,000 personnel.

The directive, issued from the State House in Abuja, underscores the administration’s urgent commitment to addressing the nation’s security challenges, which include terrorism, kidnapping, banditry, and communal clashes.
As part of the new measures, President Tinubu also authorised the temporary use of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camps across the country as makeshift training grounds for the recruits. This is to fast track their deployment and ensure no time is lost in bolstering Nigeria’s internal security framework.
“This is a national emergency. We must respond with speed, strategy, and strength,” the President said in the statement. “Our security architecture must be expanded and empowered to take back our communities and protect our people.”This decisive action is expected to significantly strengthen the capacity of the current Nigerian Police and Armed Forces to respond to the multiple security threats confronting the nation.
The President also called for closer collaboration between federal and state security agencies, community leaders, and citizens to ensure lasting peace.
