In a bid to deepen their knowledge and promote skill sharing across various sectors of the aviation industry, members of the Aviators Circle on Thursday embarked on a guided facility tour of the 7Star Global Maintenance Hangar and the Air Traffic Control Tower at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos.
The educational visit exposed members to firsthand experiences in aircraft maintenance operations and the complex activities involved in air traffic control.
At the 7Star Hangar, members were warmly received by the Safety Manager, Engr. Sheri Kyari, who conducted a detailed walkthrough of the facility.
He provided an in depth explanation of aircraft maintenance procedures, safety standards, and regulatory compliance. The session was further enriched by the presence of Engr. Daniel Ameh, Managing Director of 7Star Global Hangar, who emphasized the vital role of Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) in ensuring airworthiness and operational safety.
The second phase of the tour took members to the Air Traffic Control Tower, where they were received by Mr. Chris, the Air Traffic Operations Manager (ATOM). He outlined the protocols required to access the tower and ensured a smooth and secure visit.
A highlight of the tour was a comprehensive presentation by Miss Olamide, an active Air Traffic Controller and proud member of the Aviators Circle. From the vantage point of the Control Tower, she guided the team through real time aircraft movements on both runways, offering insight into air traffic separation, coordination within the airport environment, and the critical support provided to pilots in-flight and during ground operations.
She highlighted the role of Air Traffic Controllers as the unseen guardians of aviation safety, ensuring smooth navigation and collision avoidance within Nigerian airspace.
The tour was described by participants as a deeply enlightening experience, further cementing the Aviators Circle’s commitment to professional growth, inter-agency collaboration, and the promotion of safety standards across Nigeria’s aviation landscape.
