ABIYAMO SCHEME:OVER 54,000 WOMEN AND CHILDREN RECEIVE FREE HEALTHCARE IN ONDO STATE

The Ondo State Government has revealed that no fewer than 54,000 pregnant women and children under five years old have benefited from its Abiyamo Scheme, a critical component of the state’s Contributory Health Insurance Scheme.

This was disclosed by Prof. Simidele Odimayo, the Special Adviser on Health to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Akure.

Prof. Odimayo explained that the Abiyamo Maternal and Child Health Scheme is a major leap from the earlier Abiye programme initiated to curb maternal and child mortality in the state.

He noted that the programme has not only improved access to healthcare among vulnerable groups but also helped in reducing maternal and infant mortality in rural and urban communities across Ondo State.

The special adviser praised the Aiyedatiwa administration for prioritizing health and sustaining programmes that directly impact the lives of women and children, describing it as a “life-saving initiative.”

He encouraged more residents to take advantage of the scheme by registering at designated health centres across the state.
