Residents Raise Alarm Over Mysterious Early-Morning Odour in Akure

A growing number of residents in different parts of Akure, the Ondo State capital, have expressed concern over a persistent and offensive smell that has become a regular occurrence during the early hours of the day.

The unpleasant odour, which residents described as unbearable and potentially hazardous to health, is said to be affecting communities like Oba-Ile, Onigari, Ijoka, Alagbaka, Oda Road and several surrounding areas.

Many of the affected residents told PalacePulse News that the situation has become so severe that some families now wear nose masks even while indoors.

Mr. Tunde Akinyemi, a resident of Ijoka, described the development as disturbing.
“Every morning, we wake up to the same offensive smell. It is becoming unbearable. We don’t know where it’s coming from, but the government needs to investigate it.”

Mrs. Yetunde Adewale, who resides in Alagbaka, expressed fears about the possible health implications of prolonged exposure.
“The smell is so strong that we have started using face masks inside our own home. We are worried because children and elderly people may be affected the most.”

Another resident, Mr. Kayode Oladapo of Oba-Ile, said the problem has persisted for some time and appears to be spreading to more neighbourhoods.
“This is no longer an isolated incident. Many communities are experiencing the same thing. We need urgent intervention before the situation worsens.”

Similarly, Mrs. Funmilayo Ojo, a trader living along Oda Road, urged environmental authorities to investigate the source of the odour and provide a lasting solution.

Health experts have often warned that prolonged exposure to polluted air can contribute to respiratory problems, headaches, irritation of the eyes and other health complications.

Several residents who spoke with PalacePulse News appealed to the Ondo State Ministry of Environment and other relevant agencies to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the matter.

Residents insist that identifying the source of the disturbing smell is no longer a matter of convenience but one of public health and safety.

At the time of filing this report, the exact cause of the odour had not yet been determined. However, residents remain hopeful that the relevant authorities will act swiftly to address their concerns.
