An atmosphere of celebration enveloped a church in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, on Sunday as Professor Alamu, husband of the recently rescued school principal, Mrs. Rachael Alamu, danced in thanksgiving following her release from captivity.

A video of the thanksgiving service, which circulated on social media, showed the professor and members of the congregation singing and dancing in appreciation to God over the safe return of Mrs. Alamu and other abducted victims.
Mrs. Alamu, the principal of Ahoro Esinle School in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, was abducted alongside pupils and teachers when armed men invaded the school on May 15, 2026.
The victims spent more than 50 days in captivity before security operatives secured their rescue in an operation announced by the Federal Government on Friday.
Confirming the development, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said all the abducted victims had been rescued by security agencies.
Following the rescue, Governor Seyi Makinde visited the victims at the Military Hospital in Ibadan on Saturday, where they are receiving medical treatment and psychosocial support ahead of their reunion with their families.
The Oyo State Government is expected to formally receive the rescued pupils, teachers and other victims on Monday before they are reunited with their relatives.
The thanksgiving service marked one of the family’s first public appearances after Mrs. Alamu’s release, with the video of Professor Alamu’s joyful dance attracting widespread reactions from Nigerians who expressed relief over the successful rescue.
Parents of the rescued pupils also welcomed the development, saying they looked forward to reuniting with their children after weeks of anxiety and uncertainty.
