Veteran Nollywood actor and producer, Solomon Akiyesi, has passed away, sparking widespread shock and tributes across Nigeria’s entertainment industry.

His death was confirmed on Monday by the President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Abubakar Yakubu, who disclosed that the actor died in his sleep on Sunday.
“Yes, it is true. He died yesterday. He slept and did not wake up,” Yakubu said. “We are still awaiting further details from the family. His body has been deposited in a morgue in Abuja where the incident occurred.”
According to the AGN president, the guild is awaiting official clarification from Akiyesi’s family regarding the circumstances surrounding his sudden death.
Solomon Akiyesi, who hailed from Ososo in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of Edo State, began his acting career in the late 1990s and built a solid reputation in Nollywood, featuring in over 100 films.
He was widely known for his roles in popular movies such as Marry Who You Love, Kiss My Pain, Joy of Nakasha, Heart of a Saint, Deadly Affair, Gen Z Wife, Olaedo The Fisher Girl, Pretty Liars, The End Is Near, and Desperate Ladies.
News of his passing has triggered an outpouring of grief on social media, with colleagues, fans, and industry stakeholders paying tribute to his contributions to Nigerian cinema.
The Actors Guild of Nigeria and members of the film industry are expected to release further statements as more details emerge from his family.
