NDLEA Secures 337 Convictions, Destroys 83.35 Tonnes of Illicit Drugs in Ondo

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Ondo State Command, has recorded the conviction of 337 offenders between 2018 and 2024, while 147 cases remain pending before the courts.

The agency also disclosed that within the period under review, it seized 60 vehicles and 68 motorcycles linked to drug-related offences.

Chairman of the NDLEA, Buba Marwa, represented by the Director of Operations and Investigation, Mr. Sule Ningi, made the disclosure in Akure during the public destruction of 83.35 tonnes of assorted illicit substances.

Marwa noted that the volume of drugs destroyed goes beyond statistics, describing it as a major milestone in the fight against drug trafficking in the country. He reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to eliminating hard drugs from Ondo State.

He also called for intensified public enlightenment campaigns to curb drug abuse and encouraged individuals struggling with addiction to seek counselling, treatment, and rehabilitation programmes offered by the agency.

In his remarks, the Ondo State Commander of the NDLEA, Mr. Nanzing Sallah, said the achievements reflect the dedication, commitment, and professionalism of officers and personnel of the command in ensuring a safer society.

Sallah commended traditional rulers in the state for their support in exposing criminal elements, adding that the command would sustain its efforts until illicit drugs are eradicated from the streets.

Meanwhile, Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, represented by his deputy, Dr. Olayide Adelami, expressed satisfaction with the destruction of the large quantity of illicit drugs.
