Ondo Assembly Passes Bill Converting Owena Press to State Printing and Publishing Corporation

The Ondo State House of Assembly has passed into law a bill converting Owena Press Limited into the Ondo State Government Printing and Publishing Corporation, marking a significant step toward revitalizing the state’s public communication and publishing infrastructure.

The legislation, which was approved during plenary on Thursday, seeks to reposition the state owned outfit for improved efficiency, broader service delivery, and enhanced revenue generation. With the new status, the corporation is expected to operate with greater institutional capacity, expanding its mandate beyond traditional printing services to include modern publishing and digital communication solutions.

Lawmakers described the development as a strategic move aimed at strengthening government’s information dissemination framework while preserving the legacy of Owena Press. They noted that the transformation would enable the corporation to compete effectively within Nigeria’s evolving media and publishing landscape.

The Assembly emphasized that the newly established corporation would play a critical role in official documentation, public enlightenment campaigns, and archival preservation, while also creating employment opportunities and boosting internally generated revenue for the state.

Observers say the move reflects the government’s broader commitment to reforming state-owned enterprises for optimal performance and sustainability.

The bill now awaits assent from the State Governor to become fully operational law.
