ADC receives report on constitution review, as Ondo gets new Chairman

The National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Senator David Mark, has received the report of the party’s Constitution Review Committee, reaffirming the party’s commitment to redefining the true essence of democracy in the country.

Senator Mark made this known in Abuja while receiving the report, noting that the party’s constitution has evolved from being just a document to becoming the soul of its collective aspirations.

He stressed the urgent need to strengthen internal democracy, transparency, and accountability within the party.

Senator Mark emphasised that the task of reviewing the party’s constitution must reflect current realities.

Mark, who was represented by the party’s National Legal Adviser, Prof Oserihenmen Osunbor, commended the Chairman and members of the Committee for the diligence, sacrifice, and patriotism they had demonstrated in the discharge of their assignment.

Earlier, the Chairman of the ADC Constitution Review Committee, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Etigwe Uwa explained that the report highlighted the need to address the innovations introduced into the draft constitution and the significant areas of departure from the original constitution.

The report also recommended affirmative action provisions, proposing 30% representation for women and 20% for youths, alongside measures to ensure inclusion of persons living with disabilities.

In another development, a former member of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Mr Sola Ebiwonjumi has emerged the state chairman of the African Democratic Congress, ADC in Ondo State.

This followed the removal of the former state chairman, Mr Wole Ademoyegun by a coalition of progressive minded groups of the party.

The coalition were led by Professor Bode Ayorinde of the PDP group , Professor Biodun Ambode of the Obidient Movement,the ADC aborigines led by Mr Nejo Myson and the Omoluabi Group led by Mr Femi Johnson

The coalition said the leadership change was to ensure fairness, inclusiveness and cohesion within the party.

The state coordinator of Obidient movement, Professor Ambode also said the development reflected the interests of all the party’s stakeholders.

In an acceptance speech, the new State Chairman , Mr Ebiwonjumi expressed commitment to rebuilding the party on the principles of justice, equity, transparency, and collective leadership ahead of the forthcoming congress.

He said his emergence was necessary to rescue the party from unilateral control and restore the confidence of all members for democratic participation, fairness and progress.
