The Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has indicated his willingness to contest for another term in office in 2028 if the law permits, noting that the final interpretation of his eligibility may rest with the Supreme Court.

Aiyedatiwa made this known during a media chat with journalists in Akure, where he responded to questions about whether he plans to seek re-election at the end of his current tenure.
The governor said he would not hesitate to run again if the legal framework allows it.
“If the law permits, I will definitely contest for re-election in 2028,” he said.
He explained that the issue surrounding his eligibility could be subject to legal interpretations and arguments by lawyers.
According to him, the matter may eventually require judicial clarification by the Supreme Court.
“This is something lawyers can argue. At the end of the day, the Supreme Court will decide,” he stated.
The governor stressed that he would respect whatever decision emerges from the legal process, adding that the rule of law must guide the outcome.
Political discussions around Aiyedatiwa’s possible re-election bid have continued to generate debate, especially regarding how constitutional provisions on tenure apply to his administration.
He urged political stakeholders and members of the public to allow the legal process to take its course, maintaining that any final decision on the matter would come through the courts.
