BRAIN FREEZE IN THE SENATE: AMBASSADORIAL NOMINEE FORGETS OWN SENATOR.

A routine ambassadorial screening took an unexpected turn on Wednesday when one of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s nominees, Emmanuel Adeyemi, failed to recall the names of all three senators representing his home state, Ekiti.

Adeyemi, a seasoned diplomat and deputy director at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, initially impressed members of the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs with a stellar résumé, including foreign postings in Hong Kong and France, and a PhD in International Relations.

However, the mood shifted when he attempted to acknowledge his state’s representation in the Senate.

“I want to appreciate the two senators from my state,” Adeyemi began, naming Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele and Senator Yemi Adaramodu. But then, he paused, struggling to recall the third senator.

The committee members were visibly surprised, with murmurs echoing in the chamber.

A few senators exchanged glances before prompting him, but Adeyemi still could not provide the name.

The gaffe sparked reactions across social media and political circles, with some questioning how a nominee for such a sensitive diplomatic position could forget a key detail about his own state.

Though the error may not be disqualifying, it has certainly cast a spotlight on the importance of thorough preparation even for the most credentialed candidates.
