In a major political twist ahead of the 2026 general elections, Nigeria’s former Vice President has officially dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC). The declaration was made today in his hometown in Adamawa State and was simultaneously shared via his verified Twitter handle, sending shockwaves across the political landscape.

The former VP, who has been a towering figure in the PDP for over two decades, wrote:
“Today, I make a bold move towards a new chapter for Nigeria. I have officially joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to align with a fresh vision of hope, unity, and national rebirth.”
According to sources close to the political heavyweight, the decision to leave the PDP was borne out of long standing internal disagreements, lack of internal democracy, and a need to realign with a party that prioritizes national progress over personal interests.
The defection ceremony, held in his Adamawa hometown, drew a large crowd of supporters, ADC leaders, youth groups, and political associates who cheered the announcement.
Political analysts have described the move as a massive blow to the PDP, especially coming from one of its most recognizable faces and a former presidential candidate. It also provides a major boost for the ADC, which has been working to build momentum and credibility ahead of the 2026 polls.
The former Vice President is expected to be a key player in shaping the direction and fortunes of the ADC, with speculations already mounting about a possible presidential ambition under the new party platform.
